Export your data

We never want to hold your data hostage or even own it. Your website analytics are yours, so you can download your data whenever you'd like.

Full data export

  1. Go to Settings, click on the site name you wish to export data for, and then click Manage. From there, you'll see a heading called Export data.
  2. Exports are done on a site-by-site basis, so click the Export data button.
  3. In the modal that appears, select the date range you wish to export and click Export my data.
  4. Large exports can take a bit of time, so you'll receive an email with the URL to download it when your export is ready.
  5. Data download pages are protected and require logging into your account if you're not already.
  6. Click the link in the email once you receive it to be taken to your download page.
  7. From there, your data is separated into seven files: Browsers, Countries, Device types, Events, Referrers, Pages, and Sites. Each file is a CSV file and opens in any spreadsheet or text-file software.

If the exported file is too large to open in your spreadsheet software (this means you've VERY popular), then chunk it up in several exports, based on date, so the files don't max out the number of rows spreadsheet software's got.

Please note that these download pages expire within 48 hours, so download your data immediately. UTMs are currently not part of data exports, but we are working to add them ASAP.

Dashboard export

You can also export the data directly from your dashboard. This is a quick way to download exactly what you're looking at, including any filters you've applied.

  1. Navigate to your site's dashboard.
  2. Apply any filters or select the date range you want to export.
  3. Click the download icon button in the top-right corner of the dashboard (next to the filters button).
  4. Your browser will download a ZIP file containing multiple CSV files.

The dashboard export includes the following data files:

  • Summary.csv - Overall totals (visitors, pageviews, average time on site, bounce rate)
  • Pages.csv - Page-level statistics
  • Referrers.csv - Traffic sources by referrer URL
  • Sources.csv - Grouped traffic sources
  • Browsers.csv - Browser breakdown
  • Operating_Systems.csv - Operating system breakdown
  • Device_Types.csv - Device type breakdown (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Countries.csv - Visitor countries
  • Regions.csv - Visitor regions/states
  • Cities.csv - Visitor cities
  • Events.csv - Event completions with conversion rates and values
  • UTM files - Campaign, Source, Medium, Content, and Term breakdowns

If your site has multi-domain tracking enabled, you'll also receive a Domains.csv file.

The export respects any filters you've applied on the dashboard, so you can filter by a specific page, referrer, country, or any other dimension and export just that subset of data.

Shared dashboard exports

If you have access to a password-protected shared dashboard, you can also export the dashboard data. Simply enter the dashboard password to access the dashboard, and you'll see the export button available. Note that public shared dashboards (without password protection) do not have the export option available.

As a Fathom account owner, this is useful when you need to give clients, team members, or stakeholders the ability to download their own reports without needing access to your Fathom account.
